crazy goals: pull ups

pull ups

We’ve been over the awkward part of awkward girl, right?

It’s been a life long affliction, this lack of coordination and strength. My sport from fourth grade through my senior year of high school was marching band. I did color guard for a few years, and how I managed to never knock myself out with a flag is still a mystery (though I think I gave myself a concussion by hitting my head on one of the racks the band uniforms were kept on).

I think that pretty well sums up the level of geekery I’ve lived with.

So…PE in school? Not so much my thing.

And never once in all my years of PE testing was I able to do a pull up.

I could barely even do the flexed arm hang thing that had you do after you proved to the teacher – and the entire class, of course – that you couldn’t do pull ups.

Recently, I’ve had this crazy desire to actually be able to do one (seriously, I’d be totally fine with one) and it’s one of my 2013 goals.

I don’t know where it’s coming from or why, but it’s become a bit of an obsession. I’ve started watching videos on YouTube and reading articles, and looking at pull up bars. I’m planning to work through the rest of my Les Mill’s Pump plan – I’ve been stuck around week six or seven since the middle of October – and then I think I’ll start working through this plan from Nerd Fitness.

And sometime in 2013, I’ll post  video of myself doing a pull up.

What’s your crazy fitness goal for this year? Want to hold each other accountable?

  1. did we have PE together? I think we did my freshman year. I have NEVER been able to do a pull up either. Chris bought one of the bars you hang on the door way and I still can’t do it.
